Overview

Long Distance is an aspirational longevity brand developing an intuitive ecosystem of wearables. The company vision is to inspire a healthy lifestyle via body computed insights, generative rewards, and personalized health data ownership, validation, and signaling. Long Distance aims to position health as the new wealth. 

Contribution

Spearheaded complete ID design of a fully functioning smart wrist wearable from inception to manufacturing with emphasis on:

Concept Overview

Within the Long Distance ecosystem, an array of wearable smart devices collect biometric data and construct the user's digital twin. This twin helps users comprehend the data and converts it into actionable insights for decision-making.

Blood Pressure Monitor

The BPM stands as the anchor of the ecosystem, integrating FDA-approved blood pressure monitoring, Active Heart Rate, VO2 Max, RR intervals, and Activity Tracking sensors. These sensors provide essential health data, forming the core foundation for constructing and maintaining the digital twin.

Hearables

Premium hearable designed in partnership with Pear Sports and Beats by Dre. Capable of collecting all the key biometrics by using top-of-the-line Valencell sensors. 

Glucose Patch

With glucose being a core biometric indicator, Long Distance aims to destigmatize the use of glucose monitoring for non-diabetic people. By understanding glycemic index patterns, users can proactively manage their health, control their diet and cravings, improve mental health, and potentially prevent diabetes in the long term.

Process

Understanding the Space Paradigm

The current design process of a new mission is lacking consideration for higher human needs. The process focuses on retrofitting basic human needs in the machine in the stages of Implementation rather than considering all the human needs in the earlier stages of the process

Industry insights

Given the highly specialised nature of the space industry, it was important to engage with experts. I conducted semi-structured interviews with space engineers and space food researchers to collect insights and validate my research.

Project Methodology

I iterated the proposed methodology by using the development of the products as testing grounds to validate it and collect insights for improvements.

I used a mix of prototyping probes and co-design workshops to test my hypothesis for an alternative methodology of creating human artefacts for space.
